NUJLS programming falls into two categories: queer Jewish student empowerment and ally training. The first category includes the NUJLS conference, grants, year round student group support, and skills training. The second category trainings range from one and a half hour introductions to queer Jewish issues to four part sessions which provide in depth education on queer Jewish issues as well as connecting educators with others begining the learning process.
Student Programs
The NUJLS conference features speakers, text study, and workshops on topics such as Judaism and queerness, activism, relationships, ethics, coming out, and politics, as well as providing an opportunity for students to build community, network, and practice Judaism in a queer context.
Student group support provides the generational memory and institutional development to queer Jewish student groups. This includes access to a program database, help working with campus administration, and connections to other queer Jewish student groups around the country.
Skill trainings are custom tailored for student groups to help them fulfill their missions better. Topics include starting a campus group; fundraising; working in your local Jewish community; building coalitions; and organizing methods.
Ally Programs
Ally workshops are brief introductions to queer Jewish student issues. These one and a half hour trainings introduce queer issues in an accessible way and touch upon coming out in the Jewish community; wrestling with Jewish texts on homosexuality, bisexuality, and transgender people; and welcoming queer students into Jewish communities.
Ally trainings are an in depth series of workshops aimed at creating institutional allies for queer Jewish students. The series will enable allies to provide informed support for queer Jewish students and create more inclusive organizations. These trainings will also establish ally networks where professionals and others can learn together.
NUJLS can provide individualized trainings and consultations as requested.
